Trends come and go and some stay forever. 2016 was a year full of fun fashion trends and a lot of “Wow I want that look” moments. From chokers to off-the-shoulder looks, here are my top ten favourite fashion trends of the year.
TREND NUMBER ONE: THE CHOKER
This 90s #throwback trend is here to stay. From lace to diamond chokers, this necklace is adored by many females and almost every Instagram fashion blogger has posted a selfie wearing a choker. (Admit it, you have too). Chokers definitely give an edgy look to your outfits and they’re super easy to style. You guys will for sure see me rocking a choker in 2017 too!
TREND NUMBER TWO: PAJAMAS MEET STREET STYLE

Remember when pajamas were to only be worn indoors? Well, fashion has changed that rule this year. Many celebrities have been spotted rocking their PJ sets as fashionable street style and as outrageous it may sound walking around in silk sleepwear, it actually looks insanely comfortable and cute. I mean, who wouldn’t want to walk around wearing their pajamas in public?
TREND NUMBER THREE: OFF-THE-SHOULDER
Off-the-shoulder tops and dresses were this years absolute favourite feminine essentials. Keep this style in your wardrobe ladies because it’s a trend that’s not going anywhere anytime soon. Spring and Summer 2016 was when off-the shoulder looks began to bloom and were seen everywhere. I’m excited to see what 2017 has to offer on fashionable shoulder-less blouses.
TREND NUMBER FOUR: BOMBER JACKETS
The bomber jacket is a loose-fitted jacket that has taken over the fashion world this year. It’s the perfect jacket to style in the Fall and makes for chic street style. My favourite bomber is this camo bomber from Crush. It’s not too heavy or too light and it fits well. Did you know a bomber jacket is also known as a flight jacket? Yup. It was actually created for military pilots! Creativeness is why I adore fashion.
TREND NUMBER FIVE: CAMO
The Kardashian’s aren’t the only ones who fell in love with the camouflage trend, however they did inspire popular camo styles. If anyone can bring a style back, it’s the Kardashians. Camo was seen everywhere: on joggers, bodysuits, tee’s, jackets, hats, pants and more! This trend will live on, no doubt about it.
TREND NUMBER SIX: FUR SLIDES
‘Twas the season of furry slides, thanks to Fenty and Rihanna. Comfort just hit a new level on the streets and fashion gurus are loving it! What some of you may view as slippers, are in fact extremely comfortable and luxurious pair of slides. Oh, and it’s ok to wear slides with socks because Bad Gal Riri said so. This footwear is available on the Puma website.
TREND NUMBER SEVEN: FAUX FUR KEYCHAINS
Whether you saw it on a purse, backpack, hung on someones rearview mirror in their car or simply on Instagram with a nail post, faux fur keychains were seen everywhere this year. I might have four keychains myself. These large fur balls became so popular in the fashion world that Kendall and Kylie Jenner designed their own faux fur keychains. I don’t think I’ll be removing these furry keychains from my purses anytime soon.
TREND NUMBER EIGHT: OVER THE KNEE BOOTS

Yes we went a little over the moon when we all witnessed how adorable over the knee boots look on our legs! Suede, leather or velvet, no matter what material you choose, these boots are definitely made for walking. There are so many ways to style these boots: with pleather leggings, fitted denim, a short fitted dress… the list goes on. The latest “to die for” boots are the denim material over the knee boots.
TREND NUMBER NINE: CALVIN KLEIN UNDERWEAR

Calvin Klein underwear is not just for men and that’s a fact. This year set off a major trend alert in fashion when models began posing in Calvin Klein’s thick waisted underwear. This set comes in thongs, briefs, boxers and are paired with a matching style of bralette. Many bloggers took it to the next level by showing off the waistband of the underwear or styling the bralettes with everyday looks, and it look’s amazing! TREND NUMBER TEN: BASEBALL CAPS
I’ve never noticed many females rocking baseball caps till this year, and I loved it. Baseball caps or a “dad’s cap” went viral in fashion this year, especially when these hats became available in pleather, and made famous by the one and only Instagram icon: Kylie Jenner. (Yes, the one with the big lips.) I wasn’t into hats myself as much till this year and now I tend to always walk out of the house with my baseball cap either on my head or in my purse. And plus, these hats make for an excellent way to cover up that messy hair on one of those days.
There you have it, my top ten favourite fashion trends of 2016. Pins and patches, statement necklaces and faux fur vests were other trends that were witnessed throughout the year. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the new year.
Happy New Year to all of you!
